A brand-new sandwich shop is officially coming to The Pizitz Food Hall! Coming in Spring 2022, Tina & Gina’s Sandwich Shoppe will offer a menu and atmosphere inspired by New York delis. We got the inside scoop from owner Christina Harrison. Here’s what to expect.

Bringing a taste of New York City to The Pizitz Food Hall

Christina and her family grew up in New York City where family-style delis were on every corner. Though she moved to Atlanta at age 12, she remembers the fun of stopping at a deli on the way to school to grab a sandwich for lunch or enjoying bagels and coffee in the morning.

So, she decided to bring that same family-style atmosphere and delicious sandwiches to Birmingham. The perfect home for her vision? The Pizitz Food Hall, a food hall located in downtown Birmingham with stalls featuring international and continental options. You can find everything from burgers and poké to Indian and boba tea.

“When I walked inside of The Pizitz Food Hall, I completely fell in love with it. Birmingham is a growing city with an amazing foodie scene, so I just felt like I needed to be here.”

Of course, we had to know what to expect on the menu. Get ready for sandwiches piled high with meat and toppings! While the menu will be brimming with options, look out for these three specialties:

  • Chopped cheese—an NYC classic sandwich with ground beef, onions, melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes + more
  • Italian—a sub piled high with cured Italian meats + provolone cheese
  • Pastrami—another NYC favorite of pastrami + spicy brown mustard on rye

Not in the mood for sandwiches? There’s more to love on the menu, like:

  • Soups
  • Truffle fries
  • Potato salad
  • Gourmet ice cream sandwiches
  • Grab-and-go options

You can even purchase the cold cuts that Tina & Gina’s uses in their sandwiches to make your own at home. You can even jazz it up with a homemade charcuterie board.

A family tradition

Tina & Gina’s, named in honor of Christina’s mother and grandmother, gives homage to the women who inspired her. Her mother, a Long Island native, and her grandmother, who moved to Long Island from North Carolina as a teen, both showed Christina the joy of being in the kitchen and sharing a home-cooked meal with loved ones.

“It’s family-inspired and pays tribute to two of my favorite people in the world: my mother and grandmother. I couldn’t find anything that gave me the family-atmosphere, New York-style deli feeling, so I decided to create my own.”
