In January of 2022, the Birmingham community had to temporarily say goodbye to the beloved French cafe, Chez Lulu, but grieving time is over, as the local favorite has made a grand return, reopening this past week.
The need-to-know on Chez Lulu
On New Year’s Day, the Mountain Brook cafe, Chez Lulu, posted a photograph on Instagram–their first post since August–of a notice to the public
“As part of our ongoing effort to be respectful to our community, our medical workers and our employees, Chez Lulu will close temporarily beginning January 1st. Our sister business next door Continental Bakery will remain open as usual for masked customers. We wish you and your family good health in the new year!”

Chez Lulu, along with many other businesses, has closed several times due to COVID-19 precautions, with the goal of keeping the community safe and healthy. With their reopening, the cafe has new hours to accommodate; dinner will be served every Thursday-Sunday, 5PM-9:30PM.
New biz on the block: Civitas
In addition to reacquiring Chez Lulu, Cahaba Road is gaining another amazing restaurant. Evelyn’s Southern Fare was a staple in English Village, and its legacy will continue. Tonya Jones and her husband purchased it, reopening under the name Civitas. The new restaurant has an updated menu but the same beloved, familiar staff members.
With these additions, Cahaba Road continues to be the perfect place to go for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks.
