Meet Patient Registration Representative Ashley Morris

Since August 2020, Ashley Morris has been the Patient Registration Representative at the Vestavia Hills TrustCare. She’s the first person patients see. 

“I’m a very outgoing person—I love to see everybody that walks in the door. We do our best to take care of everybody no matter the situation. I like to see what I can do for our patients as well as the people that I work with.”

She started at the Montclair location, which opened in April 2020, right around the time COVID hit. 

When the opportunity to move to Vestavia came, she jumped at the chance. She had great memories of spending weekends there with her grandmother. “It’s very beautiful and full of kind people—it’s just the environment that I’ve always wanted to be in.”

Opening Vestavia Hills TrustCare’s new office during a pandemic was challenging

Opening a new office during the pandemic was, as you would imagine, a challenge. Ashley remembers that time and how teamwork got everyone through: 

“COVID came and we were so new. We had to figure out what to do with so many people coming in and trying to get COVID tests—at one point we were seeing 80-120 people a day. I was brand new in the medical field, by myself at the front desk and struggling. I basically taught myself how to get through it and found my own routine to get patients checked in and taken back to their care team so they could get the help they needed. In the end, it was amazing to work with our team.”

From Disney to Vestavia Hills TrustCare

Before working at TrustCare, Ashley was living her dream of working at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. She was delighted to get accepted to their College Program and was having a ball working two of her favorite attractions: the Carousel of Tomorrow and the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor in the Magic Kingdom.

She was supposed to finish her internship in May 2020, but COVID had other plans. When March—and the virus—came, Ashley found herself heading home unexpectedly early.

Luckily, when she shifted into healthcare, the skills she developed at Disney served her well. 

“Communication was essential at Disney, and it’s essential here. Each person has a different reason why they’re here, and we work with them to figure out what we can do for them and how we can help them get to their end goal.”
