In my opinion, nothing in this world is better than dessert, and our city is full of some of the best. National Dessert Day is Oct. 14, and that means it’s time for us to tell you about our favorite desserts in Birmingham.

1. Elton’s Chocolate Soufflé—Hot and Hot Fish Club

The chocolate soufflé at Hot and Hot Fish Club is everything a perfect soufflé should be—light, airy and just the right amount of sweetness. The rich cocoa flavor of this dessert pairs perfectly with the cold, rich crème anglaise that is poured into the hot center upon being served.

This dessert has been a staple on the restaurant’s menu for years, and is one I don’t see leaving anytime soon.

2. Coconut Cake—Chez Fonfon

This coconut cake is probably one of the most famous desserts in Birmingham, with recognition from Southern Living and the New York Times.

With one bite of this decadent dessert you’ll understand the hype. Roasted pecans along with toasted coconut bring out a delicious nuttiness in this cake while a sweet custard filling keeps it insanely moist.

3. Burnt Honey Cake—Bottega

This ten layered honey cake is the perfect balance of sweet and light. The burnt honey brings a unique caramel flavor to this dessert that will keep you coming back for bite after bite until you’re considering ordering another slice to-go.

4. The Big Spoon—Big Spoon Creamery

This is no ordinary ice cream sundae, with two dark chocolate rum brownies, coffee whipped cream, fudge, salted caramel, hazelnuts and an Amarena cherry to top it all off. Are you drooling yet? Their vanilla bean ice cream is the base of it all, but you can substitute in any of their delicious flavors in this sundae.

The Breakup cookie is known for its magical powers to heal heartbreak. Ok, there might not be real magic in this sweet, but I’d believe them if they told me there was. This giant cookie is sure to improve anyone’s day with its buttery flavor, melty chocolate chips and flaky sea salt topping.

You know when you wanted to eat spoonfuls of raw cookie dough as a kid, but your mom would always stop you? Well, now you can fulfill that childhood dream at Cookie Dough Magic—a spot where you can dive into endless scoops of edible dough.

We recommend getting the Birthday Cake Batter flavor, its even better than an actual birthday cake.

Prepare to bite into the thickest, gooiest cookie you could dream of at Cookie Fix. One of our team members loves these treats so much she even used them to create a makeshift cookie cake for her birthday.

All of the cookies here are incredible, but our personal favorites are the White Trash and Funfetti.
