Birmingham’s annual TacoFest returns with a new twist for 2021: margaritas! Taco-Rita Fest is heading to Sloss Furnaces on June 26 for a full line-up of food trucks, art vendors and live music. Ready to go? Keep reading because we’ve got the deets.
The first Taco-Rita Fest
Hosted annually by Bare Hands, Taco Fest is an intense competition for the title of Best Taco in Birmingham. Now, with the addition of a margarita competition, it’s a two-for-one deal.
For both contests, a team of judges samples each entry and votes on their favorites. Prizes are awarded to the best tacos and best specialty and classic margaritas. Catch Bham Now’s own Cecilia Wood judging this year’s contest!
There is also a coveted first, second and third People’s Choice award for best taco. Each visitor to the festival has three votes they can use on the tacos of their choice. This lets everyone in on the fun of sampling and judging their favorite tacos.

Lets taco-bout tacos, margs + more
Taco-Rita Fest will host a bevy of taco trucks, margarita vendors, and art vendors this year at Sloss Furnace. You’ll have plenty of food and drink options to choose from, plus with live DJ’s, a Modelo beer garden and Hornitas margaritas. From the looks of it, you won’t be disappointed.
Taco-Rita Fest will feature an art village, where you can find anything from paintings to clothes to jewelry, all from local artists.
Get to know Bare Hands Gallery
The organization behind Taco-Rita Fest is Bare Hands, a non-profit arts organization that is “dedicated to cultivating creativity and innovation in metro Birmingham and the surrounding region.”
Aside from Taco-Rita Fest, Bare Hands also hosts an annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration. Both Taco-Rita Fest and Dia De Los Muertos help fund the mission of Bare Hands to support Birmingham artists and bring fun experiences to our community.
Get ready for a good time
Bring a friend and enjoy the best tacos Birmingham has to offer, along with margaritas, live music and a full art village with local art. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 day-of, so on top of all the fun, it’s an affordable outing too!
And, if you think your taco or margarita is up to the test, there’s still time to enter the contest. You can also still enter your art for the art village.
