Chez Lulu reopens patio, new Southside restaurant and more coming to Bham

Ooo la la! Birmingham’s go-to spot for French soul food is reopen for patio dining, one of Southside’s historic landmarks is being transformed into a restaurant and so much more. Here’s what’s new in Birmingham.

1. Chez Lulu patio
Great news for all of you Birmingham foodies. Chez Lulu has reopened for outdoor dining for dinner from Thursdays to Sundays. After temporarily closing for the winter months, we can now enjoy our French soul food fix on their patio in the heart of English Village.

2. Chicken Fry’d
Here’s yet another place to add to your foodie bucket list, especially if you’re a fried chicken fan. According to the Shelby County Reporter, owner of Main Street Tavern and Station 31 Kitchen, is opening a third restaurant called Chicken Fry’d. The new restaurant will give a hometown feel and serve the ideal combo—chicken fingers and fries. Everything will be made in-house with a variety of chef-inspired items like sandwiches, salads and even chicken salad.
Owner, Jeff Webster, plans to open Chicken Fry’d this Summer in Chelsea in what was previously a Whataburger.

3. ChopNFresh Salads
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring. People looking for a yummy, nutritious option in Birmingham will soon have a new option at Lane Parke in Mountain Brook Village. According to the Birmingham Business Journal, Huntsville-based restaurant, ChopNFresh Salads is opening this summer.
ChopNFresh will offer a new casual dining experience to the Lane Parke development with fresh, quality ingredients. You can find greens, grains and in-house dressing selections made from scratch on their menu.
4. Historic Rucker Place to become original restaurant experience
The Historic Rucker Place is under new ownership with plans to transform the event space into a multifaceted high-end restaurant.
In a nutshell, the new restaurant concept will include:
- Traditional restaurant and bar
- Late-night bar and al fresco event space
- Pâtisserie and café for breakfast and lunch
- Full-service catering options
- E-commerce meal delivery for businesses and families

5. Salon Virago
The 186 Oxmoor development just welcomed a new tenant and they’re here to help with your new summer hairstyle. Last week, Salon Virago opened and is ready to serve the Birmingham area. If you’re in need of a fresh haircut, coloring or just need some hair TLC, check out this new addition in Homewood.
6. PetSuites Hoover
Great news for our four legged friends. A brand new pet resort and spa is now open in Hoover on John Hawkins Parkway. As part of their grand opening, PetSuites is celebrating throughout the month of May. The new facility offers services like:
- Training
- Grooming
- Boarding
- Daycare
- Puppy Preschool
If your furry friend is in need of some extra pampering, PetSuites even has suites with TVs and raised, cushioned beds. As people start planning more vacations, we can rest assured our pandemic pets are well taken care of.
7. Manduu
Summer is quickly approaching and a lot of us are wanting to look and feel our best as the temp continues to rise. According to the Birmingham Business Journal, a new fitness studio called Manduu is set to open in Downtown Homewood this July.
Manduu offers full-body, 15-minute workouts for that quick, effective sweat we’re all looking for. The boutique fitness studio concept uses the first FDA-cleared electrical muscle stimulation training program in the country with a trainer guided workout while connected to a whole-body EMS suit. As the 15th Manduu studio in the country, husband and wife duo, Paul and JoLeigh Paune, are happy to bring the concept to the heart of Homewood.
