Word on the street is that an exciting new development is coming to Highway 119 in Birmingham. The mixed-use project will bring retailers and residential units to the area. Let’s take a look at some of the deets, shall we?

So, what’s in the works for the corner of Cahaba Valley Rd + Grants Mill Rd?

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, six acres of land that sits between Grants Mill Road and Cahaba Valley Road near Lake Purdy is being eyed for a mixed-use development project.

It’s a pretty big project, too. It’ll include more than 10 buildings that are each three-stories tall and will include:

  • 24,000+ square feet of retail space
  • Up to 300 one, two and three-bedroom units combined
  • 492 parking spaces

I don’t know about you, but when I hear about these types of developments, the first thing I think of is the aesthetic appeal. Rest assured, the development won’t be anything over the top.

The buildings will be designed with neutral, earthy tones, brick and stone accents and shingle roofing according to the BBJ.

We don’t know who the official developer is quite yet, but we’ll keep you updated as the multi-use project is soon presented to the Birmingham Zoning Advisory Committee.

But, wait! There’s more in the works for Cahaba Valley Road

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, a residential community may be in the works for 7273 Cahaba Valley Road. This time the project will be led by Capstone Collegiate Communities.

Like the multi-use project, this development requires some talk amongst the city as it requires rezoning from a holding zone district to a multifamily district in order to build their planned 187 units.

These two exciting developments are a testament to Birmingham’s growth as more people realize what we already know—The Magic City has it going on.
