These permits include a new Southern Energy Credit Union branch in the Birmingham metro, a 250+ unit apartment complex in Shelby County and other projects in Athens, Auburn, Opelika, Cullman, Madison County and the Birmingham metro.
Southern Energy Credit Union’s new Gardendale branch

Southern Energy Credit Union is building a new Gardendale branch, located off Mt. Olive Road. The new branch will replace the current Gardendale location on Main Street.
The new branch will be larger, provide drive through service and include capacity for future growth. The new branch is scheduled to open by the end of the year.
A $3.5 million building permit was pulled for Sykes Weaver General Contractors for this project.
Apartment complex on Highway 280
Four permits totaling nearly $50 million were approved for Arlington Construction Services for an apartment complex at 4641 Highway 280. This complex will include between 250 and 300 units.
The development will be located behind the Courtyard by Marriott and is expected to be a luxury apartment complex aimed at young professionals. Features include:
- Resort-style pool and sundeck
- Fitness center
- Shared co-working lounge
