I spoke with Christy R. Johnson, the creative director at Crash14 Consulting, and she talked me through this one-of-a-kind food experience coming to Downtown Birmingham. The owners of brick & tin are bringing a new concept to a familiar location.

If you haven’t heard the news, I guess I’ll be the one to break it to you. It was recently announced that brick & tin‘s downtown location will be closing.

“Our talented, hardworking team and I have poured our hearts and souls, our blood, sweat and even tears, into downtown Birmingham and the beautiful community it has created. We watched downtown grow over the last 10 years. brick & tin downtown has been a gathering place for shared meals and meetings, quick lunches and drawn out happy hours; and all those moments in between. While our hearts are heavy, they are heavy with gratitude.”

However, no need to fret. Not only can you still get some of the best sandwiches, soups and salads in town from their Mountain Brook location, but something fresh is coming to the downtown location by the name of bowl.

Meet bowl.—a new food experience

bowl. will be taking the place of brick & tin’s previous 20th Street location and is the restaurant’s newest project. After getting some inspiration from larger cities like New York and Los Angeles, they’re introducing a fresh, new project to Birmingham.

bowl. will be a delivery and pick-up only restaurant meaning there will be no dine-in seating. Some people refer to this type of concept as a ghost or dark kitchen. Their delivery services will extend across a five-mile radius—which is bigger than it sounds.

What’s on the menu?

If you couldn’t tell by the name, bowl. will be serving eight different bowls. You will also have a choice to build your own bowl including choice of protein and your base veggie. The menu will feature vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and gluten-free options.

The bowls that you can choose from on the menu include:

  • Vegetable bowl
  • Green bowl
  • Kale bowl
  • Farm Egg bowl
  • Mediterranean Chicken bowl
  • Salmon bowl
  • Sesame Chicken bowl
  • Beef bowl

They will also serve side dishes like brussels sprouts, soba noodles, chilled omelette, sweet potatoes, and sesame broccoli to name a few.

All of their fresh ingredients are sourced from local farmers. Chef Mauricio Papapietro wanted everything about bowl. to be intentional—from the locally sourced ingredients to the eco-friendly packaging.

Hungry yet? You won’t have to wait too long to try bowl. for yourself.

bowl. will soon be your favorite new lunch spot. The new concept will officially open their doors on Thursday, November 19th. All you have to do is place an order online and they’ll bring your food via contactless delivery or you can swing by to pick-up your meal.
