Meat and seafood lovers get ready! Birmingham-based Evans Meats and Seafood is coming to Pepper Place.

According to the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ),  family-owned Evans Meats that is headquartered on Finley Avenue is developing a retail concept for Pepper Place after signing a lease with Sloss Real Estate.

The new store will be located at 2800 Third Ave. S. which is near James Beard “Best Chef in the South” Winner Chef Chris Hastings’  Overbird and Hot and Hot Fish Club. Local firms, ArchitectureWorks and Murray Building Co. have been tapped as the project’s designer and general contractor.

What should we expect? From the BBJ:

“…the full-service shop will include meat, seafood and cheese as well as a specialty counter with charcuterie and cheese. The products will be sourced domestically and some of the cheeses will come from international purveyors.”

The new retail space is expected to open in early to mid-2021.

A Birmingham Original

Evans Meats is also a civically-minded company.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck this past spring, they have set up a fund to donate 2% of all their curbside sales to help their restaurant partners.

Featured in Food and Wine’s story – The Pivot – curbside and delivery sales have enabled Evans Meats to keep many of their employees on board. Before March 90% of their business was supplying restaurants.
