If you love shopping local AND winning sweet prizes, you need to know about REV Birmingham’s Great Receipt Race. The goal? To incentivize shopping locally to support Birmingham businesses facing hard times due to COVID-19.

The race launched at the beginning of this month, but there’s still time to shop, send and WIN. Keep reading for a step by step guide on how it works, plus, a look at what local prizes are up for grabs.

We ❤️ local and want to support you. If you own a local business, please add your information to our local business or our non-profit directory. It's where we will look first for up-to-date and relevant information on how the Birmingham community can support you right now.

Your 5 Step Guide to The Great Receipt Race 📲

Step 1: Head out to your favorite local restaurant or business, or visit their site to shop online.

Step 2: Make a purchase and snap a photo of your receipt.

Step 3: Text RACE to 267-TEXTREV (267-839-8738) to get started. You’ll receive an automated reply asking you to respond with your name AND a photo of your receipt from a local business.

P.S. You only have to do this step once to get started, from there you’ll be able to send as many receipts as you’d like! You can even save the number in your phone as REV so it’s easy to find.

Step 4: Once you receive the reply, send your name and a photo of your receipt.

Step 5: Repeat steps 1-4 as many times as you’d like to increase your chances of winning a weekly prize.

Bonus: August is National Black Business Month, and REV is teaming up with Urban Impact to promote the Great Receipt Race’s take on Black Friday. So if you’re out shopping on a Friday, send in a receipt from a Black-owned Birmingham business to double your chances to win!

Here are a few guides to get you started:

There are still two full weeks to participate, so don’t wait! At the end of each week, REV will give away a unique local prize package, full of products and gift cards from local shops and restaurants. Follow them on Instagram for highlights on what prizes are up for grabs. *Spoiler Alert: They’re good. 🤩

Participating in the Great Receipt Race is just one simple way to support Birmingham businesses right now. Beyond making in-store or online purchases, you can also share your favorite local businesses on social media or leave a positive review online. It sounds small, but it’s a huge help. A nudge of encouragement goes a long way.

“To say that small businesses are vital to Birmingham is an understatement. Our businesses have given us so much of what makes Birmingham unique. Now it’s time that we give them as much support as we can to get through COVID-19 and beyond.”
