National Margarita Day is Saturday, Feb. 22. How will you be celebrating, Birmingham? If you need some ideas, here are 15 places in The Magic City to grab a delicious margarita…or two!

1—Mayawell

Say hello to one of Birmingham’s newest cocktail bars. Mayawell specializes in tequila and mezcal so you know they make a mean margarita.

We were lucky enough to host a team meeting here before its opening and tried the traditional margarita— 10/10. I wouldn’t suggest it on an empty stomach at 11AM but I’d happily do it again.

Location: 2900 4th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233

2—El Barrio

Located right in the heart of downtown, El Barrio has been one of my personal faves for a while now. It’s a unique take on when a Mexican restaurant meets a bar and grill.

You really can’t go wrong with their “El Barrio” margarita but if you want something sweeter, I’d highly recommend the grapefruit margarita.

Location: 2211 2nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203

3— Taco Mama

Of course, I had to include Taco Mama. Every Tuesday, you could catch my friends and I (along with most of BSC) at the downtown location for half-priced margaritas.

Taco Mama has a margarita for everyone. Want something spicy? The “Jose Jalapeno” flavor is for you. Watching calories? Their “Skinny” margarita comes in clutch.

Locations: 707 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd S #103, Birmingham, AL 35233 | 327 Summit Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35243 | 1014 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209 | 63 Church St, Mountain Brook, AL 35213 | 6801 Cahaba Valley Rd Suite 124, Birmingham, AL 35242 | 2050 Gadsden Hwy #128, Birmingham, AL 35235

Babalu has 5 different margarita flavors on their menu. I’ve personally never tried one because I’m too busy scarfing down their burger but it’s on my list of things to do.

Location: 2808 7th Ave S #117, Birmingham, AL 35233

5—Cantina Laredo

Are you excited for National Margarita Day? Cantina Laredo sure is. They’re celebrating with $5 Casa Ritas made with Blanco tequila, Cointreau, fresh-squeezed lemon and lime juice. Yes, you read that right. This one is for the margarita lovers on a budget.

Do you like your margaritas with a view? If you answered yes, The Roof at Redmont is for you. This rooftop bar has indoor and outdoor seating. It also has one of the best public rooftop views in Birmingham if you ask me.

Location: 2101 5th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203

7—The Lumbar

The Lumbar is serving up their signature Heisenmargs, a secret recipe blue margarita for the national holiday. This unique bar was founded by a nurse so don’t be surprised when your drink comes in a beaker.

Reminder: The Lumbar is located in Pepper Place which is a designated entertainment district. That means you can take your Heisenmarg with you to visit other Pepper Place tenents.

Location:212 29th St S, Birmingham, AL 35233

8—Little Donkey

Little Donkey combines Southern flavor with Mexican cuisine, which is right up my alley. They’ve got 5 different margarita flavors. One of which is a Sparkling Margarita that has tequila, fresh lime, agave, and prosecco. Looks like it’s time for me to take a trip to Homewood.

Sol y Luna just opened their new location in Lane Parke in Mountain Brook. We at BhamNow are big fans of this beloved restaurant and will be celebrating National Margarita along with them.

They will be serving Hornitos Margaritas with ALL the flavors including a guest flavor I’m sure will be fantastic. Oh, and we can’t forget to mention that there’ll be a DJ on the ones and twos.

Location: 920 Lane Parke Ct, Mountain Brook, AL 35223

10—Rojo

I remember the first time I tried Rojo in high school. I’ve been hooked ever since. This Mexican restaurant is nestled in the Highland Park neighborhood. If you’re looking for a laid-back atmosphere to celebrate National Margarita Day, check this place out.

Located in the Founder’s Station, the Pilcrow is one of the city’s newest additions to the cocktail bar scene. It’s unlike any other bar downtown. I fell in love with the intimate space and unique atmosphere as soon as I stepped in.

Location: 2015 1st Ave N #1e, Birmingham, AL 35203

12—The Louis at The Pizitz Food Hall

Since BhamNow works at Forge located above The Louis Bar, I had to include it. It’s our go-to place for a post-work decompress sesh. Not only are the bartenders genuinely nice but they make a mean margarita.

Since it’s located in the center of the Pizitz Food Hall, feel free to work up an appetite. If I closed my eyes and chose any of the food vendors, I’d be content with every choice.

Location: 1821 2nd Ave N Suite 194, Birmingham, AL 35203

13—Los Amigos

I’ve been a fan of Los Amigos well before they moved to their new location in Lakeview. Their new space is beautiful and the food never disappoints.

If you’re looking for a traditional margarita that hits just right, you may want to celebrate the holiday at Los Amigos.

Location: 2839 7th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233

14—Cocina Superior

Cocina Superior is one of the OG restaurants in Brookwood Village. They have 5 specialty margaritas with your name written all over them. I may just have to add the Champagne Margarita to my list of drinks to try.

Location: 587 Brookwood Village, Birmingham, AL 35209

15—Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila

I couldn’t end this list of suggestions without including Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila. The name pretty much says it all. When it comes to margaritas, they know what they’re doing.
