Gip’s Place in Bessemer is Alabama’s last authentic backyard juke joint and a great place to hear blues, R&B, soul and Southern rock. Your benevolent host Henry “Gip” Gipson celebrated his 99th birthday in January 2019 and is still going strong.

Jazzi’s on 3rd

Unwind after a long Thursday at the office with jazz and cocktails at Jazzi’s on 3rd, just a half block down from Alabama Theatre.
Primarily a special events venue, Jazzi’s on 3rd on opens to the public on Thursdays, 5-9PM, for the Renaissance Experience, featuring live traditional jazz, spoken word, art and sculpture. While you’re there, check out the artifacts of local jazz legend Henry Blankenship.

Tip: on Thursdays and Sundays, there’s no cover charge to listen to live music and dine in the main stage dining room, as long as everyone orders something from the menu. (There’s an exception when a national artist is playing.)
On Fridays and Saturdays, the cover charge or ticket fee depends on the artist.
