14 places to charge your electric vehicle in Birmingham, including UAB and Uptown

Own an electric vehicle (EV), or considering purchasing one? A growing number of electric vehicle charging stations across Birmingham make it more practical than ever to go electric. Here’s where you can charge your ride in the Magic City.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) offers public electric vehicle charging stations in 3 locations.

UAB first installed EV charging stations in 2016 and has been adding and upgrading stations ever since. In spring 2018, the university unveiled 8 new public-access EV charging stations. This June, UAB opened 18 more for faculty and staff—that means less competition for those precious public-access ports.

Charge up your ride at UAB even if you’re not faculty or staff. The yellow markers on this handy, interactive map, created by the UAB Reporter, indicate charging stations that are open to the public.

Birmingham’s Uptown Entertainment District offers 8 Tesla charging stations.

Convenient to four interstates, Uptown’s Telsa charging stations are located in the parking lot behind Mugshots and Your Pie restaurants, on 23rd Street North.

While your Tesla juices up at Uptown, you can (1) rent a Zyp bike, (2) eat at your fave restaurant, (3) grab a brew at Octane, or (4) hit balls and enjoy the view at Topgolf.
