SHALOM – Peace, Harmony, and Unity

April 20, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$5 – $35

Shalom: Finding the Peace, Harmony, and Wholeness We All Seek and Share

Presented by: Cahaba Chamber Chorale

Supported in part by the Steiner Interfaith Fund of the Grafman Endowment Fund for Temple Emanu-El.

Cahaba Chamber Chorale is pleased to present an exceptional musical experience that centers around the word “Shalom”. The meaning of this word encompasses peace, harmony, and wholeness, serving as a salutation in the Jewish community for thousands of years. As the offering of peace transcends generations and a multitude of cultures, our hope is to bring a sense of unity and joy to all who attend.

Program: Everyone needs peace, harmony, and wholeness in their life. The constant challenges and struggles that surround leave yearning for restoration and balance — as humans the hope for finding inward peace and in turn expressing outward harmony is also part of our journey. Few understand this better than the Jewish Community. The Cahaba Chamber Chorale performance will provide a sense of unity, inner peace, and completeness through the meaning of Shalom.

Shalom will feature choral music that connects us with the Jewish tradition through historic texts presented in beautiful, passionate, expressive, and at times explosive music. The highlight of the performance will be the masterwork, Chichester Psalms, by Leonard Bernstein. The chorale will be accompanied by an orchestra for this historic piece. The music promises to be a unique blend of choral music from the Renaissance to the modern era, with texts mainly from the Hebrew scriptures, particularly Psalms and the Prophet Jeremiah. Cantor Robby Wittner will be a featured guest soloist and music by local composer K. Lee Scott, the setting of Shalom, from the chancel opera, Naaman, will provide the concert with benediction.

The Cahaba Chamber Chorale is an organization that endeavors to connect, celebrate, and unify our community as we sing together and highlight the experiences that all people share. Formed to fulfill a mission, it is our goal to elevate Alabama’s rich tradition of choral music and the choral art for a higher purpose, showcasing the diverse breadth of talent in our region. Fostering the human spirit through education, advocacy, and performance of choral music, the Cahaba Chamber Chorale is excited to begin connecting with you through the power of the choral art.
