Memories and Milestones: Black History For My People

ABOUT
The event provides a platform to celebrate and honor the rich cultural and literary contributions of Margaret Walker, native Birmingham daughter, novelist and
poet who was instrumental to establishing one of the country’s first Black Studies programs. Author of The House Where My Soul Lives: The Life of Margaret Walker, Maryemma Graham, will take part in a discussion about the impact Margaret Walker has had in Black literature. This event also aims to inspire future generations, amplify local voices, foster dialogue, and promote inclusivity in our community.
PANELISTS INCLUDE
• Dr. Maryemma Graham: Univ. of Kansas Dept. of English Distinguished Professor and author.
• Ashley Jones: 2022-2026 State of Alabama Poet Laureate.
• Dr. Kerry Brackett: Miles College Assistant Professor of English, spoken word artist and author.
• Mrs. Willie Mae Crews: Former Director of Birmingham City Schools and Retired Educator.
• Randi Pink: TedX Birmingham Presenter, author, host.
