Alabama Power crews are staged safely throughout Georgia and ready to respond when Florence makes landfall. Alabama Power crews of about 350 linemen left Tuesday at the request of Duke Energy, as forecasters are predicting Hurricane Florence will cause major damage along the east coast.

Hurricane Florence is a Category 2 storm and will hit the east coast somewhere between the South and North Carolina coastline. Although the exact path cannot be pinpointed more than 5 million people are under a hurricane warning and evacuated the area. Alabama Futures Fund gets $25 Million to fund early stage startups from an A team of investors including Charles Barkley

Birmingham Transit (BJCTA) awarded $1.5 million from US Department of Transportation to buy electric buses

U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Authority has awarded a $1.5 million grant to the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit to put low-emission and no-emission electric buses on city streets.

Pedestrian bridge for Hollywood Boulevard is one step closer to connecting walkers, runners and cyclists between Mountain Brook and Homewood

The construction of a pedestrian bridge over Highway 280 may be one step closer to reality.  The Mountain Brook City Council has approved a proposal that if finalized would create the Highway 280 Public Road Cooperative District with Homewood, Birmingham and Jefferson County.

These 17 metro Birmingham companies were recently named to Inc. Magazine’s 5000 fastest growing privately-held companies.

Since 1982, Inc. has listed the 5000 fastest-growing companies who have grown their revenue and who have created a significant number of jobs in their cities.  The following Birmingham companies made the 2018 list.

Energen, one of Birmingham’s largest public companies, has been acquired by Diamondback Energy for $9.2 billion

Energen, one of Birmingham’s largest public companies, has been acquired by the Texas energy company Diamondback Energy in a deal reportedly valued at $9.2 billion and which creates the premier large cap Permian independent. The boards of each company voted unanimously to combine the two companies.  The Diamondback Energy deal comes on the heels of Energen’s sale of Alagasco two years ago to Spire and shifting its focus on oil exploration and production.

PALS volunteers pick up 123,440 pounds of litter this year in Jefferson County, Wenonah High School Wins Litter Quitter Campaign

There’s a lot of taxpayer money being spent on cleaning up after litterbugs in the Birmingham and Jefferson County areas so ALDOT (Alabama Department of Transportation) has launched the Trash Costs Cash campaign that is aimed at preventing people from dumping litter on neighborhood streets and major roadways.
