Big news for BBQ lovers: Chowhound just named Miss Myra’s Pit Bar-B-Q the best barbecue joint in all of Alabama.

Located at 3278 Cahaba Heights Road in Vestavia Hills, the beloved restaurant is known for its iconic BBQ chicken sandwich with Alabama White Sauce, a North Alabama specialty that Miss Myra’s introduced to the Birmingham community in 1984.

Since then, white sauce has become a Magic City BBQ staple—not only at Miss Myra’s, but at other BBQ joints around the Magic City, including SAWS and Jim N Nicks.

Want to make your own Alabama White Sauce?  Several years ago, the Miss Myra team shared its recipe with Bham Now.

Here is how to make it:

Acquire the following ingredients:

  • 2 quarts heavy-duty mayonnaise (the kind purchased at Costco’s or Sam’s)
  • 1 quart white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons pepper

Slowly pour vinegar into mayonnaise, using a whisk to work out all the lumps. While whisking in vinegar, also mix in salt and pepper. Once all the lumps are gone, place mixture in the refrigerator before serving to allow the sauce to thicken.

Pretty simple.
