Good news, Birmingham: After unveiling its new Bessemer campus this summer, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama (CFBCA) has debuted a fantastic addition. The Shipt Community Garden—a space dedicated to expanding Birmingham’s access to fresh, nutritious food—is blooming just in time for the busy fall and holiday season.

The new garden is one piece of a broader shift in how Shipt is showing up in its hometown—keep reading to learn how else the company is investing in the Magic City.

Community Food Bank of Central Alabama unveils new Shipt Community Garden

The new Shipt Community Garden is located at 4336 Turin Drive in Bessemer and was unveiled on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Its ten raised beds are already planted with:

late-season cucumbers
pole beans
collard greens
kale
radishes
broccoli
cauliflower

The garden will build on Shipt’s commitment to expanding food access by serving as an educational resource where Birmingham area neighbors, volunteers and community members can learn about growing fresh produce and healthy food. CFBCA also plans to harvest produce from the garden for food distribution partners and neighbors facing hunger, connecting the garden directly to Shipt’s mission of addressing hunger today and building solutions for tomorrow.

Just last year, local team members logged more than 10,000 volunteer hours, including time spent at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, mentoring high school students through Birmingham Promise and volunteering at Jones Valley Teaching Farm. Additionally, Shipt supports 30+ other organizations across Birmingham working to make fresh, nutritious food more accessible through grant and accelerator programs.
