If you missed Matthew McConaughey’s Birmingham-filmed thriller “The Rivals of Amziah King” during its opening weekend, you still have time to see the Magic City on the big screen.

The star-studded movie’s theatrical run has been extended for another week across select local cinemas. Read on to learn where you can catch the film.

How ‘The Rivals of Amziah King’ impacted Birmingham’s economy

Shot in Birmingham back in summer 2023, the major motion picture premiered last week and brought in more than $1 million in the U.S. and Canada on over 630 screens.

The film, which is distributed by Black Bear Pictures, is showing multiple times a day at the following venues:

DeSean Motley, film office manager at Film Birmingham, said many films like “The Rivals of Amziah King” are helping grow the Magic City’s film industry.

“This is not the first film of this scale that’s come to Birmingham and it’s not the last.” 

“Rivals” contributed $10 million to Birmingham’s economy, according to Film Birmingham. The movie has also received positive reviews, scoring an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes as of Thursday, Aug. 20.
