I-459 resurfacing project to impact Hoover traffic till 2027

A stretch of I-459 in Hoover between two of the most popular shopping areas in Alabama is in store for a lengthy makeover.

Beginning today the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is resurfacing 3.2 miles from south of SR-150 (Exit 10) to north of US-31 (Exit 13).  

For motorists who go by landmarks, the work is slated to be performed between Stadium Trace/ The Grove and the Galleria on I-459.

That means folks who travel I-459 at night and early morning between 7PM to 6AM, Sunday through Friday, should expect nightly lane closures and likely delays.

According to ALDOT, this part of I-459 welcomes nearly 80,000 vehicles a day, making it one of the most traveled roads in Alabama. The resurfacing is going to take till Spring 2027 to complete.

In addition to that part of I-459, ALDOT also has 2027 plans to smooth out I-459 between Exits 6 and 10 and build the future Exit 9.
