If you’re driving through Hoover today, Tuesday, July 21, budget a little extra time.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is closing an outside lane on both I-65 southbound and northbound for scheduled bridge inspections.

Here’s what to know before you hit the road.

What’s happening

Map showing lane closures for inspection
(ALDOT)

ALDOT will inspect the I-65 southbound and northbound bridges over Wisteria Drive (mile marker 251.257) starting at approximately 9AM Tuesday, weather permitting. The inspections require an outside lane to be closed on both sides of the interstate.

When to expect delays

The lane closures will be in place from 9AM to 1:30PM Tuesday. If your commute runs through this stretch of I-65 during that window, plan for slower traffic and possible backups.

How to prepare

ALDOT is asking drivers to:

  • Use alternate routes if possible
  • Adjust arrival or departure times to avoid the window
  • Observe posted work zone speed limits and signage
  • Use extra caution through the area
