1: Mobile Tiki Week returns Aug. 17-22, 2026

Tiki Week, now one of downtown Mobile’s biggest end-of-summer traditions, began in 2013 as a one-night event at The Haberdasher, a craft cocktail bar and restaurant.

Now, the tradition has become a six-day tropical transformation for over 30 bars, restaurants, breweries and coffee shops. Each of these Tiki Week Ports of Call offers up festive decor, island-inspired menu items, and, of course, many refreshing tiki drinks.

The Haberdasher General Manager Roy Clark founded the event and became immersed in tiki culture after studying the work of legendary mixologists of the 1930s and ’40s, such as Donn Beach, Victor Bergeron and Mariano Licudine. He’s followed his passion around the country, attending tiki conferences and checking out tiki and “tiki-adjacent” bars, bringing inspiration back to the festival in his Port City hometown.

2. New Jimmy Buffett Experience opens Sept. 12, 2026

If being the first in America to celebrate Mardi Gras wasn’t enough to back up its “born to celebrate” reputation, Mobile also raised the late Jimmy Buffett. Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, Buffett was only 5 when he moved with his family to the Port City and grew up there until leaving for college.

A new exhibit opening in September at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf gives visitors a glimpse into Buffett’s years in Mobile and far beyond. Titled the “Jimmy Buffett Experience,” the 6,000-square-foot space includes over 250 items, including never-before-seen photos and film footage.

The night before the opening, longtime Buffett collaborator Mac McAnally will perform a benefit show with fellow songwriter Scotty Emerick at the Saenger Theatre. The show, called “Margaritas & Memories,” will combine storytelling and songs, with proceeds benefiting the exhibit.

3. New MOBTown Mural Fest debuts Sept. 12-13, 2026

Over this same weekend of songs filling the air, Downtown Mobile becomes a canvas for bold, creative brushstrokes during the Mobile Arts Council’s first MOBTown Mural Fest.

Visitors will watch as a curated selection of artists create new murals on walls and four-foot cubes placed throughout downtown. MAC chose artists in part for their ability to create site-specific works that would reflect the culture, history and spirit of the city, as the art will remain on display long after the festival.
