The city of Irondale celebrated this week the signing of the closing documents that will bring Costco, the world’s 3rd largest retailer, to the city.

The deal was made 304 days after the development was announced in the summer of 2025. Following the announcement the city worked for 10 months to complete the due diligence phase of the project, which was necessary before the closing documents were signed.

According to Irondale Mayor James D. Stewart, the process took 2005 days — from the first day the city met with Costco officials in 2020 to the signing of the closing documents.
