Birmingham farmers markets are your go-to for seasonal, fresh produce and supporting local growers and makers. Read on for some of our favorite spots to stock up on artisan-baked goods, meats, farm-fresh fruits and veggies and more.

1. North Birmingham: Alabama Farmers Market

You’ve probably heard this called the Finley Avenue market as well. By any name, this long-standing market has been supporting our state’s farmers for over 100 years. The year-round market is open seven days a week, and hosts vendors from across the state.

The website also has a helpful tool to educate customers on what’s in season, so you can plan your shopping before heading to the market.

2. Lakeview: The Market at Pepper Place

This one is especially popular among Birminghamians. On Saturday mornings, you’ll find Pepper Place buzzing with live music, locals riding their bikes or walking on the nearby Rotary Trail and folks picking up deliciously fresh local produce, meats, goodies and a pastry or two.

3. Hoover: The Farmers Market at Brock’s Gap

Noted as “The Little Market that Could,” your support at this market benefits Alabama farmers, made-from-scratch food producers, artists and other locally-owned business owners.

4. Live HealthSmart Alabama Mobile Market

In conjunction with UAB and meant to help fill in the gaps in food deserts, Live HealthSmart Mobile Market brings fresh food to Birmingham communities like Norwood, Fountain Heights, Tarrant and Bessemer.

Inside, you’ll find a wall of fresh produce, plus pantry staples, dairy and proteins.

5. Lakeview: Birdsong Farmers Market

You’ll find this Saturday morning market right outside Automatic Seafood and Oysters. Local farmers set up shop and bring their finest—from muffins and eggs to fresh vegetables.

6. East Lake: East Lake Market

The East Lake Market is a program of P.E.E.R. Inc., developed in 2005 to combat the limited access to fresh food and provide resources for healthy living in South East Lake.

They also offer regular health screenings, children’s activities and have a mobile market of their own.

Find them at East Lake United Methodist Church, and check their Facebook page for pop-up markets throughout the year.

7. Downtown: Birmingham Central Market

You’ll find Birmingham Central Market at the BJCTA Max Transit Central Station. The market, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Birmingham, makes fresh fruit and veggies easily accessible during weekdays.

8. Sumiton: Little Giant Farm Market

Up for a little road trip? Head to this Sumiton market. It’s less than 30 minutes from Birmingham and prides itself on great customer service.

9. Vestavia Hills: Murphree’s Market & Garden Center

Locals flock to Murphree’s for strawberries and peaches each year. Open year-round, this Vestavia Hills storefront boasts an impressive selection of plants, plus plenty of seasonal produce.

Hueytown Harvest is a Certified Alabama Farmer’s Market where everything is grown, raised and made in Alabama. When you shop with Hueytown Harvest, you’re supporting exclusively Alabama farmers and small business owners.

11. Hoover: Ross Bridge Farmers Market

Ross Bridge Farmers Market is a must-visit for those looking to experience some of Birmingham’s best produce and most popular treats.

They have a market for every season, featuring art from local artists, handmade candles and home decor. Look out for special themed days like a St. Patrick’s-themed market in March.

12. Pelham: Burnette Farms Market & Café

Burnette Farms is a fourth-generation family farm based in Chilton County, but they’ve been selling fresh produce at local farmers markets over the years, and in 2017, they officially opened their own Market Café in Pelham.

You can shop for specialty items and produce in the café starting March 12.

13. Trussville Fresh Farmers Market

For everything from gulf seafood and pasture-raised meats to cut flowers and local honey, Trussville Fresh Farmer’s Market is your go-to for fresh, Alabama-made goods.

14. Pinson: Pinson Fresh Farmers Market

Less than 30 minutes outside of downtown Birmingham, you’ll find even more local farmers and makers at the Pinson Fresh Farmers Market. The area is filled with vendors selling eggs, produce, honey and more.

15. Helena: Helena Market Days

Helena Market Days features local farmers and producers selling fresh vegetables, flowers, honey, bread, jams, jellies, baked goods and more. Vendor applications are open now—don’t miss out.

This farmers’ market is a mission of the Vestavia Hills Methodist Church food pantry. The vibe is friendly and the selection is diverse!

The first market is in May, and it’s not too late to be a vendor. Learn more and apply.

The Bessemer Farmers Market prides itself on supporting farmers of color and women farmers. Plus, the market offers family-friendly activities and wellness programs to promote healthy living.

18. Irondale: Irondale Farmers Market

Irondale Farmers Market features all your favorite local vendors with fresh produce, pastries and even clothes and jewelry. Plus, there’s live music throughout each market and free watermelon.

19. Shelby County: Mt. Laurel Farmers Market

Now in its 21st year, Mt. Laurel Farmers Market has some local hits like sourdough bagels and Brady’s Natural sweetened jalapeños, or famously referred to as “Cowboy Candy.”

Plus, there’s a craft fair at every market on Saturday mornings.
