Whether you’re a visitor looking to explore the city and get the full local experience (welcome!) or a native in need of a staycation, Birmingham has many boutique hotels—complete with history, beautiful rooms and top-notch hospitality.

Keep reading for eight boutique hotels perfect for any occasion.

1. Elyton Hotel

First Avenue North’s 4-star hotel is The Elyton—a little taste of luxury in the middle of downtown Birmingham.

Take a stroll through the city’s Theatre District and down historic Morris Avenue, and end the night with a few drinks and great views at The Elyton’s rooftop bar.

2. The Painted Lady

Birmingham’s newest boutique hotel is The Painted Lady. Opened in 2025, it’s housed in the Eyers-Raden Building, one of the district’s oldest structures.

Fun fact: Letters dating back over a century were found underneath the wallpaper during renovation!

Designed to preserve its authentic charm, The Painted Lady pays homage to Louise Wooster, a local madam from a trying time in Birmingham’s early history.

It’s right next door to Bygones Cocktail Lounge and mixed-use development The Battery.

3. Redmont Hotel

Redmont Hotel is Birmingham’s longest-running hotel. Its rooftop bar is the highest in the state—with the best view!

Part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, Redmont is a timeless hotel that’s maintained its elegance for 100 years. Plus, when you stay here, you’re close to the hustle of downtown Birmingham, including the BJCC Concert Hall, Legacy Arena, Protective Stadium and Coca-Cola Amphitheater.

4. The Tutwiler

The Tutwiler is one of my favorite historic buildings in Birmingham. Here, you’re a short walk from the city’s public library, the Birmingham Museum of Art and City Walk BHAM.

5. Hotel Indigo

If you’ve seen the hotel in historic Five Points South, that’s Hotel Indigo! Its art deco-style architecture was originally built for medical offices, and it sits right across the street from Birmingham’s first apothecary.

6. The Kelly Birmingham

Part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection, The Kelly Hotel is an offering from Rhaglan Hospitality, the same hotel management company behind the Redmont Hotel on Birmingham’s 5th Ave.

Each room is beautifully designed and has a stunning view of downtown. In the lobby, you’ll find colorful, jewel-toned accents and a collection of eclectic artwork.

7. Grand Bohemian Hotel

Nestled in Mountain Brook’s Lane Parke is the Grand Bohemian Hotel, a whimsical getaway spot that makes you feel like you’re vacationing in Europe.

Shop Lane Parke’s local gems, treat yourself at Habitat Feed & Social or explore the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Birmingham Zoo just across the street.

8. The Ross Bridge Gold Resort & Spa

Ross Bridge Resort & Spa (Bham Now)

Ross Bridge is a little on the “luxury resort” side of boutique hotels, but its hospitality is just as intentional. Whether you’re on the Robert Trent Jones golf course or having a relaxing spa day, you’re in good hands.
