Birmingham could be getting a new, iconic ice cream franchise in town.

Cold Stone Creamery, an ice cream parlor chain with around 1,100 locations in the U.S., announced Wednesday, Dec. 17 that it would explore opportunities to expand to Birmingham its suburbs.

Demand for ice cream

The creamery is looking to open three to six stores within the next three years in the Birmingham area, according to a release from the company.

“Birmingham is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, with the second-largest population in the area…As the community continues to grow, the demand for Cold Stone and its premium ice cream rises, creating an opportunity for entrepreneurial talent to capitalize on the demand by joining a business with staying power and opening a store that will serve as a hub for the community.”

There are currently four locations in Alabama — one of which is in the Birmingham area:

  • Trussville
  • Huntsville
  • Dothan
  • Albertville

A new location is opening soon in Auburn, the company said.
