When we first announced that Cannella Gelato would be reopening its doors on Mercantile on Morris in 2022, I was more than a little excited. Now, Cannella Gelato is officially open, so we checked it out. Keep reading for a look at what’s on the menu and recommendations from our team.

Mercantile on Morris is a mixed-use development located on historic Morris Avenue with residential units as well as retail and dining options, including Pizza Grace, Bar La Fete, Hide & Hunter and more.

Cannella Gelato is the newest addition to Mercantile on Morris, so our team checked it out to give you the inside (gelato) scoop.

If you haven’t tried gelato, allow me to introduce you to your newest warm weather craving. Gelato has a smooth, creamy texture and has a few differences from ice cream, including that there’s typically more whole milk than cream and no eggs. While gelato has less fat than ice cream, it’s churned more slowly to give it a decadent texture. Long story short—it’s a must-try.

Cannella Gelato will also offer sorbettos—a non-dairy frozen treat in strawberry lemonade, mango and pomegranate. Along with gelato and sorbettos, you can find coffee, espresso drinks and affogato (espresso with your choice of gelato).

My recommendation: the lemon, lavender, honey + goat cheese gelato was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever had… in my life. After sampling it, I convinced half of the Bham Now team to try it too, and they agreed. Our other team recs include the cappuccino gelato which had the perfect hint of coffee without being overpowering and the salted butter caramel gelato for a rich flavor.
