It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.
From a $43.7M recreation center and library to new disc golf courses, here are 5 new businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, 2 local spots we’re saying farewell to.

1. New disc golf courses in Helena and Pelham

Looking to expand your disc golf horizons in Birmingham? Two new courses opened in the Birmingham area last week:
- The City of Helena unveiled a new 9-hole disc golf course in the back of Joe Tucker Park, located at 230 Tucker Rd, Helena, AL 35080
- The City of Pelham opened a new 10-hole disc golf course at Coker Park, located at 732 County Road 72

1. Alabaster’s new $43.7M recreation center and library

Last week, the City of Alabaster broke ground on a new recreation center and library. Located at the corner of Alabama 119 and Thompson Road, the new rec center and library will feature:
- Multiple indoor courts
- An event and meeting space
- An indoor walking track
- A workout and fitness area
- An outdoor pool and splash pad
- A 19,000-square-foot library space (triple the size of the city’s current library)
- An 84,000-square-foot recreation center space
The new facility will cost $43.7 million and is expected to open in 2027.
2. Corporate Environments at Urban Supply

Corporate Environments, a minority-owned commercial furniture dealer that specializes in creating and reimagining workspaces for companies in any industry, is opening its first Alabama location at the Urban Supply development in Birmingham’s Parkside district.

The Atlanta-based furniture store will soon join the growing list of tenants at Urban Supply, including:
- DeNada Mexican Restaurant, a new concept from the family behind Hacienda Mexican Grill in Indian Spring Village, will open at Urban Supply in 2026.
- Dogtopia, a doggy daycare with boarding, grooming and spa options for your four-legged friends that opened in October 2024.
- THRIVE Coworking, an Atlanta-based hybrid workspace provider that recently celebrated its grand opening on February 10, 2025.
- Fairway Social, a sports bar and entertainment center from Atlanta-based Competitive Social Ventures that opened on July 17, 2025.
- The Lodge, a hidden speakeasy located under Fairway Social, opened its doors on July 22, 2025.
- Up-Down Arcade Bar, an authentic arcade experience featuring dozens of vintage arcade machines with a large outdoor patio area and an outdoor container bar element that opened on April 4, 2025
- Leafly Boba Bar, based in Huntsville, opened its second Alabama location at Urban Supply on March 29, 2025.
3. Anthropologie at The Summit moving to new location

Just in time for Black Friday, Anthropologie at The Summit is getting a major upgrade. The popular women’s clothing, accessories, home décor and furniture retailer will soon move from its current location at 200 Summit Blvd to the former Banana Republic space between gorjana and Levi’s.

1. Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila

After seven years, Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila closed its doors in Hoover’s The Preserve neighborhood on Sunday, August 31. Owners Benard and Brianna Tamburello announced the news last week, stating:
“This restaurant has meant the world to us,”
“We want to thank you guys truly from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us… It was a journey. It was a blessing.”

Taking its place is the Tamburello’s newest project, Vecchia Gelato & Café. This charming Italian-inspired café will serve up bold espresso, fresh-baked pastries, sparkling spritzes, gelato and other Italian street food favorites and is expected to open in October 2025.
2. Carrigan’s on Morris Avenue

Carrigan’s is closing its home on historic Morris Avenue after 12 years, but don’t fret—the popular local restaurant and cocktail bar will soon open a brand new location at The William, an upcoming mixed-use development in downtown Birmingham. The original Carrigan’s on 2430 Morris Ave will close on Saturday, September 6, while the new location at The William will open in October 2025.
