Calera: 400% growth since 2000

Once a sleepy Shelby County suburb known for its Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in the center of its downtown, according to the 2023 Census, the town is the eighth fastest growing community in Alabama. Between 2000 to 2020, Calera grew 400% in population from 3,158 to 16,494.

In their post on Facebook about the new hotels, the city of Calera believes additional lodging in the city will help attract restaurants. Increasing dining and entertainment options has been a priority for the town.

In 2022, the downtown area was declared an entertainment district.
