6 new + coming soon businesses in Birmingham, including a new café in Woodlawn

It’s Spring in the Magic City, and there are all kinds of blooming new businesses popping up across town.

From a locally-owned bar and café in Woodlawn to an upscale French dining concept at Pizitz Food Hall, here’s everything you need to know about what’s new and coming soon to the Birmingham area.

Now Open

1. House Eleven | Woodlawn

Today, March 10, Woodlawn residents Kim Nguyen and Caleb Taylor officially opened the doors to their new café, bar and event space: House Eleven.

House Eleven’s goal is to be a hub in the Woodlawn community, whether you’re stopping in for a coffee or catching up with friends. Its café will offer coffee beans from several local roasters: June CoffeeDomestique Coffee and Red Bike Coffee.

Plus, you can rent it out as a venue for live shows, parties or other events.

2. The Broken Knife | Homewood

The Broken Knife, a combination of a dine-in and take-out restaurant, is now open for business in Homewood.

Owned by Birmingham locals Bucki Davis and Chris Talley, it features a variety of tasty sandwiches, in-house made sauces and their famous duck-fat chips.

3. Rêve | Pizitz Food Hall

Rêve, a new French fine dining concept by Chef Jacob Stull, is now open at the Pizitz Food Hall. The concept centers around elevated French peasant comfort food, taking inspiration from Southern and New Orleans-style cuisine.

Currently, Rêve serves a pre fixe tasting menu, however later in the month, it will introduce extended courses and an à la carte, brasserie-style menu with seasonal dishes.

  • Hours: Tuesday-Saturday | 5-10PM

4. Burning Tree Smokehouse | Lakeview

A new barbecue joint is now open in Lakeview right next to Pepper Place: Burning Tree Smokehouse.

The driving force of this new spot is Warren Webster, a longtime pitmaster who spent the past 35 years perfecting the art of barbecue at Jim N’ Nick’s Bar-B-Q.

The menu features a mix of barbecue classics like brisket, turkey, pork and ribs. You’ll also find a variety of sandwiches, tacos and sides like slaw, beans, fries and a rotating side of the week.

5. D-BAT | Gardendale

D-BAT, a batting cage and training facility with more than 150 locations nationwide, has officially opened in Gardendale.

This new training experience is equipped with personal trainers, private lessons and the latest equipment to better your baseball of softball skills.

6. Up-Down Arcade Bar | Urban Supply

Up-Down Arcade Bar, an arcade chain founded in 2012 by Josh Ivey, Rafe Mateer and Sam Summers, is opening its first location in Alabama this Spring at Urban Supply in Birmingham’s Parkside district.
