There’s a new late-night option for food in Birmingham’s Five Points South entertainment district. Starting Monday, February 17, iconic neighborhood bar Dave’s Pub will be offering up hot dogs, sandwiches and sides—at an affordable price.

When husband & wife duo Dan and Sherri Williams purchased Dave’s Pub in 2024, they had big plans to renovate the historic neighborhood pub—but food wasn’t part of the plan.

“We had no intention to have food when we reopened the bar, but our customers have been begging for food.”

The new owners and the Dave’s staff have put in a lot of hours renovating the historic pub, and it’s paid off—Dave’s is staying busy! At the urging of their customers, Dave’s Pub has added a kitchen and a new menu with pub food classics like:

  • The Chili Cheese Hot Dog — Your choice of chili (meat or veggie) topped with slaw.
  • The Fried Bologna Sandwich — Thick sliced bologna, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo.
  • Dave’s Club — Deli sliced turkey, ham, bacon, Swiss, lettuce, tomato and mayo on three slices of bread.
  • Chili Cheese Fries — Chili and cheddar cheese topping hand-cut fries air-fried in avocado oil.

Although bar food isn’t known as being particularly healthy, Dan is proud that the team has been able to offer food made with clean ingredients.

“We are being really mindful of our ingredients. We use ingredients with natural preservatives; we don’t want to use ingredients with preservatives or high-fructose corn syrup. We just want to model our food on the way our family eats.”

Dave’s will also offer plant-based options for vegetarian customers and gluten-free bread options for sandwiches. Dave’s new pub food menu will be available during all normal business hours, excluding some major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Dave’s new pub food menu is a welcome addition to Five Points South, which recently lost Marty’s PM—a beloved local establishment with late-night food options like the legendary patty melt.

Dave’s new kitchen isn’t the only exciting change happening in Five Points South. A new chicken joint, Sauce & Suds, is set to open in the former Black Market Bar & Grill space in early 2025.
