Birmingham-based Whammy first started out doing business at pop-up shops and e-commerce around Birmingham at local spots like Pepper Place and Ore Mercantile.

Now, Whammy is getting its very first location in the thriving The Denham Building this summer. The shop specializes in global coffee from Costa Rica, Mexico and Ethiopia. They also plan on offering delicious pastries and seasonal drink specials.

Samford Alum Mitch McEver and his wife Maddie are excited to transform their pop-up shop into a brick-and-mortar, where they will serve their locally roasted coffee all day.

“Whammy is all about having fun and enjoying great coffee in an inviting space for the community.

When looking for our first location, The Denham Building stood out because of its historical character, proximity to UAB and location within an up-and-coming neighborhood in Birmingham.

Plus, the opportunity to be a part of a community of like-minded, small business owners inspired us. We look forward to introducing Whammy to the Parkside District soon.”

A fun environment for everyone

Known for its “light-hearted” branding, Whammy will include a miniature toy dinosaur with every coffee bag.

They plan on officially opening sometime this spring.
