Of the six new building permits issued in Alabama this past week for construction projects exceeding $1 million, half of them are for projects in the Birmingham metro.

The largest of these projects is for the new Jefferson County Animal Care & Control facility.

New Jefferson County Animal Care + Control facility

The new Jefferson County Animal Care & Control facility will be located at 1052 Sydney Drive in Birmingham. The project consists of the construction of a new 34,000-square-foot facility that will house both the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and Animal Control.

The permit is listed at $26 million, with Stone Building Corp. in Birmingham listed as the lead contractor.
