Happy Monday, Birmingham! From a highly-anticipated bar in Avondale to a locally-owned childrens’ boutique, there are all kinds of new businesses popping up around The Magic City.

Keep reading for a roundup of new openings and a sneak peek at a few spots that are coming soon. Plus, help us say goodbye to two local businesses.

1. Black Market Bar + Grill | Avondale

The wait is over!

Black Market Bar + Grill has officially made the big move from Five Points to Avondale. After 12 years in Five Points, their new home is the former Avondale Common House building.

Stop by the new location for crafted cocktails, late night eats and Sunday brunch.

2. Lilly & Daisy Bakery | Roebuck

Sweet tooths, rejoice! Lilly & Daisy Bakery opened its newest location in Roebuck on Sunday, August 11.

This sweet little shop serves a variety of confections like cupcakes, pound cakes and even custom decorated cakes for events, birthdays and more.

3. Black Leaf Cigar Co. | West Birmingham

This locally-owned high-end cigar lounge is the newest addition to West Birmingham.

Black Leaf Cigar Company is now open, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for friends to wind down and smoke premium imported cigars.

4. Dear Emmaline | Vestavia Hills

Looking for clothing and gifts for your child, grandchild or family member? Located in the Vestavia City Center, Dear Emmaline is a one-stop shop for all things cute.

Owned by Jordan Soyars, Dear Emmaline started in 2017 as an online-only business before blossoming into a brick-and-mortar location full of childrens’ clothing, accessories and toys.

5. Walker County Park | Jasper

On Friday, August 9, United Way of Central Alabama and members of their volunteer program, Hands On, officially opened the Walker County Park in Jasper.

The park is the third of six centennial parks celebrating United Way’s 100 year anniversary, featuring a ton of fun amenities including:

  • BBQ grills 
  • Gardens 
  • Learning pavilion for kids
  • Pickleball courts 
  • Swings
  • Walking track

6. Terrific New Theatre | Downtown Birmingham

After a four-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Terrific New Theatre (TNT) is returning to the Birmingham theater scene with a newly renovated building and an exciting 2024-2025 theatrical season.

In 2023, TNT purchased the former Alabama Auction Room building as a new, permanent home for the theater company. The 7,500-square-foot space has room for 100 guests and much more room for actors and theatrical staff in the back of house.

7. Cheap Chick | Homewood

We are sad to report that Cheap Chick will be closing its doors permanently after two years in Homewood. The beloved thrift store provided the Birmingham community with cheap, second-hand clothing that was stylish and on trend.

8. Alfa Romeo + Maserati | Irondale Auto Mall

Two high-performance luxury auto dealerships, Alfa Romeo of Birmingham and Maserati of Birmingham have closed their storefronts in Irondale.

But as the old saying goes, when one door closes another one opens.

According to Irondale Mayor James Stewart, Subaru is replacing the two Italian-made brands at the Irondale Auto Mall off I-459.
