Beat the August heat with The Avondale Sugar Shack opening Aug. 3

Looking for a way to beat the August heat? Help is on the way! On Saturday, August 3rd from Noon to 5PM, The Avondale Sugar Shack is celebrating their grand opening in Avondale.

Located at 4330 3rd Ave. South, 35222, this new spot specializes in a wide variety of delicious shaved ice and lemonade creations.

Situated on the Jones Valley Trail, the Sugar Shack will be easily accessible to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

The Avondale Sugar Shack: No shortage of goodies

Abra Barnes — owner of the Sugar Shack and the adjacent The Avondale Gallery and Loft Center — partnered with her three girls on this venture. This new addition to her business is specifically designed to teach her god-daughters about entrepreneurship and gaining practical experience in running a business.

We specialize in shaved ice, but it’s not just about the treats. We’re all about the experience: you stroll up to our colorful stand, and you’re met with upbeat music and big smiles from our young entrepreneurs who are ready to whip up something sweet while spreading joy and laughter. Thanks to a $5,000 grant through the Grow Stage of Magic City Match, a program powered by Prosper and led by REV Birmingham, Barnes’ small but mighty The Avondale Sugar Shack was able to open this new and creative concept in Birmingham.

The Avondale Sugar Shack menu, dates and times

What can you get at The Avondale Sugar Shack? Here is the list:

• Shaved Ice with 30+ flavor options from strawberry to blue bubble gum
• Shaved Ice “Flight” with four- to six flavors
• Lemonade
• Toppings
• Candy, chips, dill pickles and Gatorade

Beginning Saturday, August 11, the Sugar Shack will be open on the following dates and hours:

• Saturday —  Noon to 8:00PM
• Sunday — Noon to 6:00PM. 

Barnes is hoping to open on select weekdays in the future as well, depending on staff availability.
