A new banking model that combines online financial services with a physical shared workspace is launching in downtown Birmingham.

Always.bank is introducing its digital platform this week alongside the grand opening of BasePoint, a downtown headquarters where local entrepreneurs can both work and meet in person with business banking advisors.

Hybrid coworking + banking comes to downtown Birmingham

Always.bank operates as a division of the 22nd State Banking Company, a regulated Alabama institution with roots dating back to 1917.

While the platform provides modern 24/7 digital tools like tailored business lending and high-yield savings, BasePoint is designed to bring a human element to digital business banking.

Located at 2308 1st Ave. S, Suite 108, the new space functions as a collaborative environment where business owners can work, connect with peers and meet face-to-face with professional advisors.

“BasePoint is a reflection of our belief that small business banking should extend beyond transactions and into real relationships and community. It’s about creating more opportunities for connection and support within the business community.”

Steve Smith, Founder of Always.bank and CEO of 22nd State Banking Company

New resources for Birmingham small businesses + entrepreneurs

The hybrid model aims to give local founders the agility of a fintech platform alongside the stability and personalized service of a traditional community bank. BasePoint access is included with an Always.bank membership. The space includes:

  • Collaborative workspaces designed for local business owners + entrepreneurs
  • Flexible membership tiers structured to adapt as a business scales
  • Direct access to advisors specializing in small business challenges, SBA/USDA loans + specialty finance

Greg Spadea, executive VP and chief digital officer, noted that the Birmingham location will serve as the blueprint for how the digital bank establishes physical roots in local markets:

“By combining digital tools with a physical hub, we’re creating a more complete, customizable experience for today’s business owners.”
