The former  Palm and Pig restaurant on Montgomery Highway in Vestavia Hills is now Hillside Music & Que.

The official changeover occurred earlier this month on July 3rd.

Last week, we sat down with owner Skip Davis to learn about all the changes.

A little less than a year ago, Bham Now provided locals with a sneak peek inside the new Palm & Pig restaurant. Thanks to a slight change in ownership, the popular eatery at  633 Montgomery Hwy, 35216 has changed its name to Hillside Music & Que.

“We rebranded the restaurant and took the opportunity to bring in JP Holland, owner of  The  Fig Tree in Cahaba Heights and Watkins Branch in Lane Parke to be our executive chef.”

Menu and cocktail changes

What kind of changes did Holland make? According to Davis, they designed the menu to have a local pub vibe with a wide variety of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and much more.

Items include:

  • Pork Sandwich – ¼ pound of slowed and wet brined BBQ pulled pork
  • Conecuh Po’ Boy – Featuring Conecuh sausage with red BBQ sauce
  • Six kinds of burgers ranging from an old-fashioned Smash Burger to Pimento and Onion Burger
  • Four kinds of hotdogs, including a Texas Dog and a Bama Dog

Expect the kitchen to roll out some entrees during the week and there are appetizers, brunch items and even a “lighter side” section on the menu.

If you are a fan of cocktails they have also recrafted their cocktail menu, adding signature cocktails.

In addition to the good food and drinks, what makes Hillside Music & Que standout is its live music.

“We want to be a local favorite for people to come hang out and take in live music on this side of Vestavia. We strive to have single or duo acts, so it’s not loud and overpowering to folks. We want them to hear some music, sit back and have a nice cocktail or draft beer and have a good time.”
