Looking to plan a romantic dinner date with your partner? We’ve got you covered.
With summer seafood specials, wine pairings and tasty desserts, let Half Shell Oyster House take the reins and prepare to just sit back and enjoy your date.
Some of the Bham Now team visited the restaurant to give their summer menu a taste. Read on for our thoughts.
Half Shell Oyster’s reserve wine selections

It’s not technically a date without wine. Lucky us—Half Shell Oyster House is home to a huge selection of reserve wines.
Whether you prefer a vibrant red or a chilled white, you’re sure to find your next favorite bottle.
First course—oysters

If you’re like me, a seafood dinner isn’t complete without oysters. In addition to raw (my favorite), Half Shell serves four variations of baked and charbroiled.
Our team ordered the oyster sampler to experience them all. Here’s what we tried:
- Charbroiled Oysters: charbroiled over an open flame with white wine, butter, garlic + herb sauce
- Oysters Orleans: charbroiled over an open flame + basted with New Orleans-style smoky Cajun sauce
- Oysters Bienville: herb, mushroom, crab, Gulf shrimp, bacon, + Italian bread crumb mixture— baked + topped with parmesan
- Oysters Rockefeller: spinach, cream cheese, herbs—baked + topped with parmesan
There’s no better way to enjoy your oysters than with a crisp glass of white wine
Half Shell’s recommends Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc—a refreshing white wine with flavors of lemon and verbena.
Second course—surf

Half Shell’s newest special, the Margarita Grouper, was a total hit with our team. A grouper filet basted with citrus margarita glaze, served over a bed of coconut cilantro lime rice and topped with zingy pineapple salsa—this dish screams summer.
The Margarita Grouper pairs perfectly with Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, a bright white that complements the dish’s fruity flavors.
Third course—turf

We covered surf, now let’s try some turf. We got the Filet Orleans, a 7-ounce filet topped with sautĂ©ed Cajun shrimp and a heavy dose of parmesan. This buttery, savory steak dish pairs well with a rich glass of Meiomi Pinot Noir.
Dessert

Are you team eat your dessert or team drink your dessert? Whichever way you like it, Half Shell offers some delicious dessert options to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Here’s what we tried:
- Bananas Foster Cheesecake: Creamy New York Cheesecake topped with whipped cream + spiced rum sauce for a Bananas Foster twist
- Triple Chocolate Martini: A chocolate swirled martini glass with a rich blend of 360 Chocolate Vodka, Bailey’s Chocolate Liqueur + cream
