Celebrate Women’s History Month by donating to UWCA’s Period Supply Drive
Reading time: 2 minutes
March is known as Women’s History Month, and United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) is celebrating by giving back. Until Friday, March 29, UWCA is seeking donations of tampons, pads and other necessary supplies benefitting women in need across Central Alabama.
UWCA Period Supply Drive runs through March 29
Hosted by UWCA and United Way Hands On, this event was organized to provide feminine hygiene supplies to women in the area who may not have access to these supplies or cannot afford them.
Here are some of the products UWCA is seeking:
- Flushable wipes
- Tampons
- Pads
- Panty liners
- Small cosmetic pouches
According to Rachel Upton, Director of United Way Hands On, there is a significant part of the Central Alabama population currently in need of donations.
“In Central Alabama, we are told by organizations big and small that these supplies are in serious need. More than half the population here experiences periods, so it’s important that we step up to support the members of our community who may have limited or no access to these supplies.”

How can I donate?
Interested in donating? UWCA is accepting donations on-site at its campus in Jefferson County as well as five additional collection sites:
- Jefferson—Alice Williams Building, UWCA Campus
- Shelby—Shelby Emergency Assistance
- Blount—Blount County Children’s Center
- St. Clair—St. Clair County DHR
- Walker—Chamber of Commerce of Walker County
- Chilton—YMCA of Chilton County
Additionally, UWCA is taking donations through its Amazon wishlist or by donating directly through its pledge page.
After collections ends March 29, volunteers will assemble and distribute kits to local organizations like women’s shelters, youth programs, schools and more.
