About Valhalla Board Game Café

In early 2020, longtime friends Adam Valentine and Nick Hammett founded Valhalla Board Game Café as a place where people could play a wide variety of exciting board games while enjoying local food & drink.

Although the COVID-19 Pandemic prohibited the duo from opening a physical location, Adam and Nick began hosting Valhalla Board Game nights at local breweries and other establishments as a proof of concept.

“We’ve run pop-up Valhalla events for almost four years at this point, and they’ve all gone really well. Still, the dream has been to open a standalone, brick-and-mortar boardgame café where we could keep our library of games, serve food and drinks and create a fun atmosphere.”

Opening Valhalla Board Game Café in Pelham

Yesterday, Valhalla Board Game Café announced on Instagram that they have started build-out on a new space in Pelham. Located at Campus No. 124—a redeveloped elementary school in Pelham—the upcoming board game café is expected to be open in Summer 2024.

“Our contractor, Elledge Construction, is fantastic and quoted us about an eight-week build-out time. We’re likely looking at a late June, early July opening.”

  • A massive library of classic and new board games, from Monopoly to Dungeons & Dragons—and beyond!
  • Custom 3D-printed game pieces from 4Horsemen Printing
  • Mead from Huntsville’s Ravenwood Meadery and Alabaster’s Ivy League Brew paired with high-quality Viking drinking horns from AleHorn
  • Coffee from Adventurer’s Coffee Company in Calera

In addition to playing games on-site, guests will be able to purchase any game they’d like. Plus, guests can use the rentable flex rooms for events like birthday parties or D&D.
