In 2020, a group of local entrepreneurs opened the first dedicated esports arena in the Southeast right here in Birmingham. Dubbed the ePLEX, the venue was a place for both amateur and professional gamers to play. Read on to learn more.

About the ePLEX

Located in the Crestwood Family Center at 7001 Crestwood Blvd #200, the ePLEX was a hub for gamers throughout the Southeast. It featured exciting activities for both single gamers and groups of players, including:

  • Video games on both PCs and consoles
  • Virtual Reality experiences in a dedicated VR arcade
  • Immersive escape rooms
  • Racing simulators with realistic wind and road simulation

That’s not all—the ePLEX hosted several local and regional gaming competitions throughout the years. These events were held on the central competition stage, a square arena where competitors could go head-to-head while streaming live.

In addition to gaming, the ePLEX was home to a restaurant and bar and was available to rent for birthday parties.

Now closed in Birmingham

After four years in Birmingham, the ePLEX has closed. The venue is listed as “Permanently Closed” on Google and Facebook, signage has been removed from the location in Crestwood and the business’ phone number has been disconnected.
