Umami Birmingham, an Asian-inspired restaurant in Lakeview, is expanding. Get ready, Trussville—this tasty spot will be opening in the Entertainment District this February.

Umami Birmingham opened for biz in the Lakeview District back in 2020 by the former restaurant owners of Nori Thai and Sushi and Shiki.

After much success, the dining spot is expanding to a new Trussville location, with plans to open in February.

Taking the lead of the new space is Agus Suyasa, a local entrepreneur with 15 years in the Pittsburgh restaurant industry.

Why Trussville?

After seeing the city’s growth over the last few years, Suyasa told us it was an easy decision to expand to the Birmingham suburb. Plus, in a town where barbecue, Mexican and pizza are offered on nearly every corner, the Umami team wanted to bring a new vibe to the area with Asian fusion dishes like ramen, sushi and more.

“I moved to Pittsburg 15 years ago. Trussville was nothing like it is now. Trussville had opportunity. It’s growing. They put time and incentive there to bring more people in.”
