Whether you’re hosting the family for Thanksgiving this year or having friends over for your annual Friendsgiving, it’s time to get your decor together for your dining table spread. Read on to get tips and tricks for setting the perfect Thanksgiving table (including where to shop) from three local agents at Ray & Poynor.
Getting started on your Thanksgiving table
When it comes to decorating for an event, realtor Robin Kidd has it down to a science. Her secret weapon? Post-it notes.
“I can’t live without Post-it notes. I start by making one for each dish and then I pull out all of the serving pieces and arrange them on the buffet or where the food will be served.
To decorate, I start with the colors I will be working with from the centerpiece or a tablecloth, napkins, placemats or chargers and then I add plates, silverware and accessories.”

One of her favorite ways to add a special touch to her decor is to use both old and new pieces.
Try something new this Thanksgiving
For Kathryn Dorlon, incorporating pumpkins sets the mood for the holiday.
“Sometimes, I use the pumpkin as a base of an arrangement, put an arrangement on top of a pumpkin or even use mini pumpkins in an arrangement. I like using more vibrant shades of corals and yellow.
I also love to incorporate vegetables and fruits, such as artichokes, pears and apples. My list goes on and on.”

Lucy Parker loves incorporating foliage she finds in her own yard.
“Our family loves to gather around the table outdoors at our farm in Pike Road. We use burlap tablecloth arrangements created from foliage found in our yard and surroundings like winged elm, other branches, or wild grasses for height. Wildflowers also give a nice pop of color.”

Where to shop for your holiday table decor
The food is obviously the star of the show at Thanksgiving, but the decor is *almost* as important. A gorgeous table can elevate your meal and wow your guests, but getting started as the host can be intimidating.
“Don’t be afraid to try something new and fun. Stop and think about times you have felt special as a guest and take your spin on that to help your guests feel special. Do something extra that personalizes their experience.”
