Construction is officially underway at Edgehill at Southtown, a public housing redevelopment located on a 22-acre site in Birmingham’s Southside.
About Edgehill at Southtown
Edgehill at Southtown is an upcoming, highly-anticipated mixed-use development in the heart of Birmingham’s medical and research district on the Southside. The development is located on the footprint of Southtown Court, a 455-unit public housing community originally built in 1941 with funding from the United States Housing Authority. After nearly 80 years of use, the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) board approved the demolition and redevelopment of the site in 2019.
After a lengthy demolition process of the aging Southtown Court, the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) and Southside Development Company (SDC) officially broke ground on Edgehill at Southtown in April of this year.
Several entities are involved in the Edgehill at Southtown redevelopment, including:
- BREC Development, LLC
- Doug Hollyhand Realty, Inc
- SPM Property Management
- McKean & Associates Architects
- Schoel Engineering Company, Inc.
- Raymond James
- ServisFirst Bank
