9 ways to celebrate Juneteenth in Birmingham

Juneteenth—the national holiday celebrating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans—is coming up on June 19. Birmingham is full of beautiful and historic places to commemorate this holiday. So clear your calendars, because we have a full lineup of events happening around The Magic City that you need to attend.

1. 2nd Annual Juneteenth Festival

Balancing & Overcoming Life Adversities is hosting its 2nd annual Juneteenth Festival and we heard it’s a can’t-miss. Come ready to commemorate history with live artists, food trucks and more.

2. Cultural Fest

The Crescent Cultural Community Center is hosting a street market with art, food and fun. After 5PM the street market turns into a concert and after-party, so charge up and get ready to party at Culture Fest.

3. #BETTERTOGETHER Market

Celebrate Juneteenth and Creed63‘s 2nd birthday with Black Business Market. This block party will commemorate Black businesses, freedom and community.

4. Juneteenth Pop-Up Art Exhibit

Bring your family, friends and lawn chairs to support local artists and performers of The Magic City. This outdoor exhibit will also have food and an open mic. Run, don’t walk, to get your tickets and support Bham artists.

5. Sips & Scholarships

This Juneteenth brunch is organized by the Kiwanis Club of Vulcan and aims to fundraise for scholarships for graduating seniors around Birmingham. By attending, you can help improve the lives of the future of our city. And who doesn’t love brunch?

6. Juneteenth in The Magic City

Join Simone’s Kitchen for the hottest Juneteenth party around. You can expect live music, dancers and food trucks at this celebration. So don’t miss it!

7. Juneteenth Social with UAB Black Alumni

UAB Black Alumni Network invites everyone to attend their Juneteenth Social. You can register for $25 and get a night full of food and live music. All money raised at this event will go toward the Omega Psi Phi Memorial Scholarship which benefits incoming Black male students at UAB.

8. BLKYOGITRIBE Celebration

As a fundraiser for BLKYOGITRIBE, Harvest Roots Kombucha is hosting a Juneteenth celebration. You can expect music, Birmingham Baker and a yoga raffle where all proceeds will go to BLKYOGITRIBE.

9. National Juneteenth of Alabama parade

On the morning of Juneteenth, you can celebrate at the official Juneteenth of Alabama parade. The route starts at 8:30AM and festivities and fun will begin right after the parade ends.
