Birmingham is gearing up for a weekend full of Cinco de Mayo celebrations. With all the festivities going on across the Magic City, we’ve compiled an ultimate guide to celebrating this holiday weekend featuring live music, drink specials and more.
1. Little Donkey
Cinco de Mayo falls on a Friday this year, and Little Donkey is here for it. This holiday, Little Donkey’s Homewood and Greystone locations are serving up drink specials and tacos all day long. This Cinco de Mayo, they’re serving up sizzling skirt steak tacos, $8 watermelon margaritas and the return of a classic Little Donkey drink– the tequila mockingbird.
Pineapple lovers, this is a must-try cocktail made with:
- Agave simple syrup

- Serrano

2. Laughs & Tacos! Cinco de Mayo comedy show
Are you ready for some laughs and tacos? This Friday, the Purple Event Center is hosting a Cinco de Mayo comedy showcase featuring tons of local talent. The show will include singers, rappers, dancers and even spoken word. Tickets are $10 online here or $15 at the door, so make sure to get yours now.

3. Unos Tacos at The Pizitz
Music, tacos, margaritas and more? Sign me up. This Friday at Unos Tacos it’s an all-day Cinco de Mayo affair. First, start out with margarita specials all day. Get up and move with a performance by Mariachi Imperial 2-4PM and finish the night with DJ Nano 4-8PM.

4. La Paz
La Paz in Crestline is having an all-out party for the whole family this Cinco de Mayo. Live music starts at 3PM with Dwayne Beasley and drink specials all night long. Kids can enjoy balloon art and face painting 5:30-7:30PM.

5. Cinco de Chuy’s
It’s not Cinco de Mayo without a few margaritas and plenty of queso. This holiday, Chuy’s is having drink specials all day. Upgrade to a grande ‘rita for only $2 more and keep the limited-edition grande giveaway cup. Not enough ‘rita for you? Take it up a notch with $1 floaters.
Throwing your own party? Chuy’s also offers at-home meal kits with everything you need to make your holiday celebration a fiesta for the ages.

6. Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila
It’s fiesta time at Moss Rock Tacos & Tequila! Festivities start at 11AM and go all night, featuring live music with the Geni Skendo Trio playing Latin Jazz 5:30-9PM. Drink specials include:

- All Mexican beers $2.50
- Muchacho $3
- House Margarita $5
Want to bring the whole family? Moss Rock Kids Zone will be free all day with bouncy houses, Jenga, sidewalk chalk and Connect Four.

7. La Calle 205 presents Cinco de Mayo
For fans of latin music, this event is a must. Starting at 7PM on Friday, Zydeco and La Calle 205 will host a Cinco de Mayo takeover featuring three floors of music, including:
- Downstairs: Grupo Herencia Especial
- Upstairs: Reggaeton by DJ Wonup, DJ Matel, Ace
- Patio: Cumbia, salsa and bachata by DJ Emmoxx
Drink specials will be available all night long and Pequenas Delicias will be serving up delicious food in the patio. Make sure you get there early, because the first 150 patrons will receive a free taco. Get your tickets here before they’re gone.

8. El ZunZún
Mark your calendars for a big Cinco de Mayo celebration at El ZunZún. Join the fun this Friday with specials including:
- $5 tequila shots all day
- $7 El ZunZún margaritas in a souvenir cup
- Giveaways every hour starting at 3PM
For the kids, there will be face painting and a piñata. Make sure to get there by 6PM to get a chance to get a whack at the piñata!

9. Cinco de Gringo
Latinos Con Onda is collaborating with Mayawell Bar for an all-out celebration featuring music, dance and plenty of drinks. Festivities include:
- Food trucks
- Vendors
- Piñata
- Mezcal
- Art
- Beer
There will be live music by MMLN SLCTR, Tony Rodio, Lu Mont and friends. The event will take place Saturday, May 6 starting at 4PM, and tickets are available now here for $15 so don’t miss out.

10. Sol Y Luna
One of Birmingham’s most beloved Mexican restaurants, Sol Y Luna will be holding their 2nd Annual Cinco de Mayo Street Party on May 5th from 5PM to 10PM on Rele Street at Lane Parke.
Tickets are $5 at the door.
Entertainment will be provided by DJ Tony Rodio and The Divines.
Local Lane Parke restaurants will also join Sol Y Luna in on the fun — Lady bird Tacos, CharBar 7 and Post Office Pies.
