Located just north of Birmingham, Jefferson State Community College has provided educational opportunities and workforce training in Alabama since 1965. Each year, the college serves more than 13,000 students with campus locations in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Chilton counties.

The new Regions Foundation Student Success center—located at the college’s Carson Road campus—is a brand new space designed to help students complete their education by offering vital, much-needed resources.

According to President Brown, the Student Success Center will be able to provide access to mental health counseling, confidential peer-to-peer support, address food insecurity issues with its food pantry and provide access to emergency grants for students in need. In addition, staff in the Student Success Center will be able to offer referrals to other Jefferson State services providing academic and personal support.

“Jefferson State Community College is an open-door institution, so we know students have needs than many of us may not deal with; such as transportation, child care, mental health, food insecurity and more. You can’t expect someone to be successful when they’re hungry, or when their children are hungry.

Keith A. Brown, President, Jefferson State Community College

Made possible by a $500,000 grant from the Regions Foundation

The new Student Success Center is funded in part by a $500,000 grant from the Regions Foundation, a nonprofit initiative primarily funded by Regions Bank. Thanks to the grant, Jefferson State will be able to provide the services to students at no additional cost.

“At the Regions Foundation we have one clear goal—to provide more inclusive prosperity to the community. We do this by focusing on people. We support education and workforce readiness; we advance economic and community development; and we create more financial wellness. This Student Success Center supports all three of those priorities.

Marta Self, Executive Director, Regions Foundation

Although the Regions Foundation Student Success Center is based out of Lurleen Wallace Hall on Jefferson State’s campus on Carson Road, the Center’s services are available to all Jefferson State students. To learn more, students can access services by visiting www.jeffersonstate.edu/ssc, emailing successcenter@jeffersonstate.edu or calling 205.856.7913.

The Center will be open each weekday from 8AM to 4:30PM.
