Mark your calendars, Birmingham! The first-ever Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) polo team from Morehouse College faces Magic City Polo on Saturday, October 1 at 4PM. Keep reading to learn more about this historic moment for our city.

Polo is a ball game that’s played solely on horseback. According to Britanica, the game has central Asian origins but grew in popularity with England’s nobility and royalty. Today, the sport continues to thrive in colleges around the US and the world. It’s even the emblem of the popular Ralph Lauren Polo brand.

Who is the Magic City Polo Classic?

Magic City Polo Classic is special because they’re breaking barriers by making a space for Black athletes to play this interesting sport. We’re excited to see their first game ever played against Morehouse Polo Team, the first HBCU team.

On Saturday, October 1 at 4PM, make your way down to Montevallo to watch Morehouse College vs Magic City Classic in the first ever HBCU polo match in Alabama. There will be champagne, tailgating, music and more.
