Earlier this year, Good People Brewing Company teamed up with the Southern Environmental Center to create the new Darter IPA, a low ABV hazy-style IPA. Attendees of the ninth annual Darter Fest—an annual fundraiser that supports educational efforts at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve—were able to get a “sneak peek” and try the special brew.

“We are thrilled to work with the Southern Environmental Center on this project. We appreciate their passion and commitment to the preservation of such a fragile local treasure. To help support their efforts, Good People Brewing developed the Darter IPA, which we believe demonstrates our passion and commitment to quality beer making. We hope everyone enjoys this low ABV hazy style IPA.”

Jason Malone, Co-Founder and Head Brewery, Good People Brewing Company

According to Good People Brewing Company, the Darter IPA is brewed with fruity, juicy and tropical hops, producing notes of vibrant grapefruit, passion fruit and guava. Low bitterness and creamy mouthfeel make for an easy drinking IPA!

The Darter IPA beer can prominently features the Vermilion Darter, a critically endangered fish species only found in one place in the world—Turkey Creek. According to Roald Hazelhoff, Director of the Southern Environmental Center at Birmingham Southern College, the Darter IPA beer can will be the first of its kind nationwide to feature an endangered Darter fish.

“We’re very excited about the new Darter IPA! A percentage of the proceeds will support our educational programs at Turkey Creek and help protect the Vermillion Darter. We encourage everyone to come out and sample the Darter IPA this Friday—it’s the perfect hazy IPA for the end of summer.”

The unveiling of the Darter IPA can on Friday, September 9 will kick off a series of events supporting Turkey Creek, including:

  • Darter Scramble, the first-ever Eco Golf Tournament, held at Highland Park Golf Course on September 26th
  • Darter Dash, a 5k and 10k run held Turkey Creek on October 8th

A portion of the proceeds from both events will help support Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.
